WFED 1500 Washington, DC

Words can't describe the impressiveness and beauty of this site.
A couple of websites to visit to see all the history are
DCMemories.com and Fybush.com

Looking at one of the most important historical radio stations in the United States. The beautiful WTOP 1500 (now WFED).

Looking up the three tower array. On the left tower is the backup transmitter for WTOP-FM and a translator.

Inside this palace is a two story transmitter room. The room was designed for the public to come in and look through windows at the giant transmitter.
Long after the site closed to public viewing, the wall was taken down, and the room opened up. Here you can see the primary DX50 on the right and the older
Continental 317 on the left.

A closer view of the transmitters.

The Harris DX50 primary transmitter.

The backup Continental 317R transmitter.

The audio processing, switching and other gear.

Engineer and tour guide Dave Kolesar, in front of his phasor for 1500. The newish phasor is in the basement.

A quick glimpse of the old switch gear in the basement.

Looking at the bottom of the tower that has the FMs on it, with the isolation couplers.
