WSCR 670 Chicago

In 2019, sister station WBBM 780 moved from their long time site north of here and moved into this site,
diplexing with WSCR. The two Entercom stations are combined into the main and backup towers.
We got a chance to visit this site in August 2019.

The legendary WMAQ 670 transmitter site. Calls were changed to WSCR in 2000, and WBBM was added in 2019.

The 750 foot over guyed primary tower

And the 250 foot backup tower.

The buildings used for the tower, including the combiner/ATU and former ATU, which still has a bunch of RF gear in it.

Looking up the backup tower.

In the old building is the tower grounding switch, original to the tower.

The ATU coils for lighting, and FM isocouplers for the 107.9 antenna.

The combining network. There is a lot of RF inside that case. 37kW on one side, 50kW on the other, combined together.

The actual combiner section.

In the main transmitter building is the antenna switching, transmitter match and filter.
